Tian zhang

Tian Zhang is an ecosystem ecologist and postdoctoral researcher at the University of New Mexico. His academic background spans geography, GIS, and ecohydrology, providing an interdisciplinary foundation for studying interactions among water, carbon, vegetation, and climate. He completed his Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University, where his research focused on ecosystem carbon and water dynamics across grassland and woodland systems. His work integrates field observations, eddy covariance measurements, soil respiration, remote sensing, and environmental data analysis to investigate ecosystem responses to climate variability, land-use change, and disturbance. At UNM, Tian contributes to the NSF EPSCoR Good Fire project, which examines how managed fire can enhance ecosystem resilience and reduce wildfire risk across the western United States. His current work uses LANDIS-II landscape modeling to simulate forest responses to managed fire and climate change, with particular emphasis on long-term carbon storage, carbon emissions, and vegetation dynamics.
